Reader's letter: Band support
My wife and I attended a concert by Newark Town Band in the Ballroom of Newark Town Hall for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
The whole evening was an enjoyable and happy occasion.
I suspect the vast majority of Newark residents have never been in this venue.
The Ballroom is a fine example of Palladium architecture at its very best, certainly the equal of many stately homes or palaces — an unseen jewel which Newark Town Council keeps under wraps.
I was glad to see so many young players in the band, so well done to all the young musicians for lifting the evening.
I particularly liked the umbrella sequence accompanying Singing In The Rain.
A very enjoyable evening from a brass band first established in 1957 — that’s 66 years ago.
I would urge Newark residents to always support their local talent.
I know the band play in the castle grounds in the summer, and it is well worth watching them.
Unfortunately, the weather is not under our control, so let’s keep our fingers crossed. — CHRIS HOBBY, Newark.
