Barclays bank announces closure of its branch in Newark Market Place
Barclays has announced it is to close its Newark branch this summer.
The bank blamed the way customers have swapped from face-to-face service to online for the decision.
The branch, in the Market Place, will close on Thursday, August 17.
It plans to open a pop-up cashless banking site in Newark where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support.
A Barclays spokesman said: “Our customers’ behaviour has changed significantly in recent years, with the majority now choosing online banking.
“This is reflected at the Newark branch, and as we adapt, we are finding new ways to support our customers by maintaining our community presence with options for customers who still require in-person support.
“In Newark, we plan to open a Barclays Local, a pop-up cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch and without the need to travel.
“We are currently working with the local community to identify a suitable location and will announce details once confirmed.”
Customers have a wide range of options to complete their banking including the Barclays app, telephone banking, online banking and video banking.
The nearest Barclays branches are Grantham and Lincoln, and the nearest free-to-use ATM is Santander at 44 Market Place, Newark.
Everyday transactions can be completed at any Post Office with the closest at 11 Paxtons Court, Newark.
