Be part of festive tree festival
Preparations have started for the fifth Christmas Tree Festival to be held at Newark Parish Church.
Organiser Olivia Blackburn, the wife of the Rector of Newark, the Rev Vivian Enever, said people taking part could either provide a tree themselves or have one available at cost price.
“Participants simply need to decorate their tree in any way they like,” she said. “Businesses and organisations can represent themselves as they choose, giving free rein to imagination.
“Trees can be interesting, thought-provoking or simply pretty.”
Sponsors are needed for the event.
Last year the festival had more than 100 trees and the aim is for a similar number this year.
The festival attracts more than 5,000 visitors. Olivia Blackburn said it was becoming increasingly popular.
The festival will open at 9.30am on Saturday, December 8 and continue until the evening of December 16 when there will be a Carols of Praise service.
Attractions will include homemade refreshments, craft and gift stalls and music. Entry will be £2 for adults and 20p for children.
