Newark College hosts a Big Welcome for new term in collaboration with YMCA and Lincoln College Group Initiative
Students were given a Big Welcome on the first day of term at Newark College with a day of entertainment and workshops.
Local organisations and businesses were on hand to help new students settle in and show the support available to them.
It included Morrisons, which was at the campus to promote student only-offers and give the students vital tips for their academic success.
“Newark college has a community feel and we value the time to get to know our students to ensure we can support them in the way they learn best.” said Penny Taylor, head of Newark campus.
“Developing personal and social skills are an important part of the curriculum at college where we have a focus on the mental health and wellbeing of all our staff and students as well as teaching students the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed for work.”
The YMCA and Lincoln College Group Initiative, Project You, offered the students and staff a wide range of activities and interactive challenges.
Newark and Sherwood District Council and Fareshare were there to promote healthier living and eating habits with a smoothie bike.
To ensure that all students have access to all help needed, support services were available at the event.
Freddie, the therapy dog was present to cheer the students day.
Newark college is still accepting students for this academic year.
“A warm welcome to all of our students and staff, who are starting the new year here.” said Martin Booth, director of education and training.
“It’s been really quiet here over the summer, we’ve missed you all,
“We know we are going to give you a fantastic education.”
