A councillor who has resigned from her role said it was an honour to serve as Bingham's mayor and deputy Mayor.

Mrs Tracey Kerry resigned from Bingham Town Council on Friday after six years as a councillor.

She served as the town's mayor three times and was deputy mayor until her resignation.

Mrs Kerry said she had resigned for personal reasons.

A by-election will be held if it is requested by at least ten electors in Bingham before September 22.

If this doesn't happen, a councillor will be co-opted, which means a councillor will be recruited without an election.

Mrs Kerry said: "During my time as a councillor I have been privileged to meet and work with individuals from varying sectors and backgrounds, all of whom I have the utmost respect for.

"It has also been an honour to serve the town as mayor and deputy mayor over a number of years which I did to the best of my ability, often to the detriment of my own family and businesses.

"When joining Bingham Town Council my ambition was to help make the town a safe, friendly place to live and work, especially during the fiscally challenged times that are currently upon us.

"Progress in the town was limited and I feel I have assisted in moving things forward and results are now coming to fruition.

"We retained Warner's Paddock, short-term parking is coming into fruition and (there is) investment in community facilities in the town such as the Methodist Church."

Mrs Kerry said there was still a huge amount of work to be done and the councillors had her full support.

She said: "I will continue to support my fellow residents and assure them that I have always acted in what I felt was the best interests of the town.

"I will of course be keeping an interested eye on future developments and will continue to represent the residents of Bingham where I can, to influence change and growth.

"However, this will be as a concerned resident and no longer as a councillor."
