'Give It A Go' day at Bingham Fire Station welcomes all

Bingham Fire Station is open to all this weekend as it holds a 'Give It A Go' day.

The event is designed to give everyone the opportunity to test themselves and experience the role of an on-call fire fighter.

It will run from 10am until 4pm on Saturday and is open to anyone within the community interested in joining the Bingham team.

Planned activities of the day include:

  • A ladder climb
  • A manual dexterity assembly test
  • An equipment carry
  • Hose running
  • Experimenting with equipment

The aim of the event is to encourage people to seriously consider applying to join the team as an on-call fire fighter as they are currently recruiting on their website. The current recruitment campaign will close on August 5.

Applicants should be aware that on-call fire fighters are expected to attend the fire station using their own transport within five minutes to respond to calls and will form part of the crew mobilising to operational incidents as required.

They may also respond from their home address and – with their employers permission – from their place of work within the five minute turn-out time.

Anyone interested in the event is asked to arrive at Bingham Fire Station at 10am to have their kit fitted.
