The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Right Rev Paul Butler, spent the day visiting churches in the newly formed East Trent Group on Sunday.

The group encompasses 11 churches covering a total of 15 villages - Winthorpe, Langford, Holme, Brough, Collingham, South Scarle, Besthorpe, Girton, Spalford, North and South Clifton, Thorney, Wigsley, Harby and Swinethorpe. They all come under the care of the priest-in-charge the Rev David Milner.

The Bishop told the Advertiser that the group had been set up to meet the challenge of a shortage of paid clergy in the Church of England. He said the idea was that each parish would take responsibility for their own church much more with the help of an overall church leader.
