Bingham Bowling Club celebrates century milestone
A bowls club has been on a roll since 1922 and has celebrated its centenary milestone, writes Gianluca Spataro.
Celebrations commenced at the weekend as current and former members of Bingham Bowling Club gathered for the occasion on a lovely, bright and sunny day.
Guests included Newark and Bingham MP Robert Jenrick, Bingham Town Mayor Andrew Shelton, and Jonathan Hammond, of Hammond Property Services, who is honorary vice-president of the bowls club.
All guests were invited to have a try at bowls in honour of the celebratory landmark.
Member of the club Graham Scrivener said: “The club provided an excellent buffet which was prepared by Mrs Pat Handley and her helpers, being enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.”
Chairman Mr Keith Hackett gave a welcome speech paired with a brief history about the club before setting the stage for president Mrs Kath Paterson to say a few words.
Mrs Paterson then invited long serving member, Mrs Doris Sykes and Mr Terry Paterson to cut the cake.
Mr Jenrick said: "On Saturday I had the pleasure to attend and celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Bingham Bowls Club.
"It was great to see such a popular and well supported local club enjoyed by so many residents of the area.
"I hope this celebration will be one of many over the lifetime of this excellent club. If you are local and are interested in getting into bowls, please do get in touch with the club."
Mr Hackett in summary said: “Everyone present had really enjoyed themselves and commented on what a memorable and enjoyable afternoon it was, here’s to the next 100 years.”
