Brollies in town centre to create uplifting visual representation of all our different minds - Newark Creates project a partnership with ADHD Neurodiversity Foundation and part of nationwide project
Hundreds of bright brollies are currently being put in place above Newark town centre in an uplifting visual representation of all the different minds we have locally and across the UK.
The display, organised by Newark Creates in partnership with the ADHD Neurodiversity Foundation, is part of the nationwide Neurodiversity Umbrella Project and is designed to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome.
As part of Newark Creates’ education and outreach programme, they will be working with local communities and schools to offer opportunities to perform during the installation with Barnby Road Academy, YMCA Creative Academy and Robin Hood Youth Theatre set to entertain guests at the launch event, taking place this Wednesday from 12pm to 12.40pm in Newark Market Place.
Sara Bullimore, cultural programme co-ordinator for Newark Creates, said: “I’m so excited to be launching this amazing and meaningful installation, set to be the largest so far in the UK. It’s so important to spread the message of celebrating and accepting neurodiversity and it’s wonderful that Newark is able to take a leading role in this.”
Newark Creates is led by Newark Cultural Consortium and aims to celebrate Newark's heritage and arts organisations through a series of exciting events and activities. Its work is funded by grants from Historic England, Arts Council England, Cultural Heart of Newark and Shared Prosperity Funding, as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone.
