Brownie group's future under threat
A Brownie group might have to close unless a volunteer steps forward to help.
1st Claypole Brownies, which has 15 members, is being run by one leader after her colleague moved out of the area two months ago. It has two young leaders, who are both under 18, but needs at least one other leader to keep the group open.
Newark division commissioner Jodie Stevens said: “We have advertised locally and spoken to parents but haven’t had any luck in finding anybody yet.
“The unit has been kept open so far by utilising a parent rota and other local leaders stepping in — but this still leaves one leader solely responsible for the unit and the associated administration and planning tasks.
“We are really looking for one or two more volunteers to bring back a team approach to running the unit.
“The recent lack of help has left our leader feeling understandably unsupported.”
Jodie said the leader would not carry on unless another stepped forward, so the unit would have to close.
The group needs a leader to help run meetings, events and activities for girls aged seven to ten.
The leader will receive support and training opportunities and by sharing their skills will support girls in trying new things.
1st Claypole Brownies meets on Mondays at the Old Village Hall.
Meanwhile, 1st Collingham Rainbows, which is open to girls aged five to seven, is looking for a volunteer to support a child on a one-to-one basis.
