Burst pipe on Parker Street

A water company says it has been unable to fix a burst pipe on a street because it is next to a gas pipe.

Severn Trent Water said it was aware of the problem on Parker Street, Newark, and plan to fix the pipe as soon as it was safe to do so.

Residents say the pipe has been pumping out water for two months.

A Severn Trent Water spokesman said: “Our teams have investigated the water leak on Parker Street and, because our pipe is right next to a gas pipe, we need to work with other utilities so we can safely dig down and fix the pipe without causing any, more serious, issues.

“The leak is not causing any issues with customers’ water supplies, and our aim is to fix the pipe as soon as it’s safe for our engineers to do so.”

A regular user of Parker Street said that it was appalling nothing had been done.

He said: “It should be their priority to get the pipe fixed.

“Residents are disgusted with it. You can see the water trickling down the road.”
