Demolition work is well under way on the Potterdyke carpark site, Newark, in preparation for the £50m Asda supermarket development.

Contractors have this week been working on demolishing the bus station.

It is expected that work to partially demolish the derelict Robin Hood Hotel will start next weekend. It is also planned to demolish Newark Health Centre.

It is hoped a temporary carpark on the site will be ready by Christmas.

Work is progressing on a new health centre on Portland Street.

The building will house services such as physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and district nursing.

The Asda supermarket will create more than 300 full and part-time jobs and should be open by Christmas 2011 with the new bus station opening at the same time.
