Stagecoach resumes normal bus timetable

A bus service timetable has been re-instated just three weeks after the service was reduced to cut costs.

Stagecoach's 28 bus, which runs between Newark, Southwell and Mansfield, had its service reduced last month.

The changes affected both commuters to Newark from Southwell and patients of Kings Mill Hospital, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Last week Stagecoach announced that the 8.18am bus from Southwell to Newark would be re-instated after customers were unable to get to work.

The service, which is provided in conjunction with Nottinghamshire County Council will continue on the old timetable and will be reviewed again in the New Year.

Chris Ward, Manager, Transport and Travel Services, Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "Following a number of complaints Stagecoach and Officers from the County Council's Transport and Travel Services Team met to discuss the recent changes made to the 28 service.

"The County Council has agreed to provide temporary funding to re-instate the 28 service from Monday 1 October and Stagecoach will be reviewing the recent changes and passenger figures over the next few weeks. It is hoped that a revised service will be introduced in the new year.”

A spokesman for Stagecoach said: "We can confirm that following discussions with transport officers at Nottinghamshire County Council we will be re-instating the original timetable for Service 28 and 29 buses between Newark, Southwell and Mansfield from Monday 1 October 2018; this will include restoring the morning peak time journeys although two of these will run five minutes earlier.

"Nottinghamshire County Council has agreed to provide financial support to restore the service up to 31 December 2018. This should allow time for Stagecoach East Midlands and transport officers to find a sustainable long term solution to maintain the viability of the bus route."
