The Nottingham's Newark branch collects hundreds of donations for young people in Ukraine
Staff at the Newark branch of The Nottingham Building Society has collected hundreds of donations for Ukraine refugees.
The items, ranging from non perishable foods and nappies, was sent on a lorry to Moldova on Tuesday by Nottingham-based charity Operation Orphan.
In addition, The Nottingham has made a £20,000 donation Operation Orphan to support its work in helping young people and their families who have had to flee their homes in Ukraine.
Staff volunteered their time at the charity’s headquarters, where donations need to be sorted through and packed in boxes to be sent to Moldova, where many families are fleeing to.
Cyrilyn Moore, Operation Orphan’s director of communications, said: “We’re really grateful to The Nottingham for this wonderful donation. It’s really empowering knowing that we are able to do so much with it to support Ukrainian refugees.
“It’s a significant sum that will help us provide things such as food and firewood to those who need it the most, and aid the logistics of sending the eight-tonne lorry consignments from Nottingham to Moldova.
“We also truly appreciate the support the building society has given in terms of the many hundreds of items collected via its branches, including the extremely generous amount donated via the Newark branch team, and the volunteering time no less than 25 of its staff have given up to help us pack and load boxes among other things, all of which goes to show just how much The Nottingham cares.”
