Cake sale goes down a treat

Hundreds of cakes were sold at a village school to help pay for its choir to travel to an international singing event.

Muffins, cupcakes, crispy cakes and chocolate fudge cakes were among the items sold at a stall at St Peter’s Primary School, Farndon, to raise money for the choir to go to the Young Voices event in Sheffield in January.

The cake sale, organised by parent Mrs Dawn Vamplew, of Barnbygate, Newark, raised £122.

Mrs Vamplew said a previous cake sale raised £103 and £300 had been donated to the school to buy T-shirts for the 30 children in the choir to wear to the event by Farndon Focus, the village magazine.

She said: “It’s a massive event and there are going to be choirs from different countries there.

“It’s something the children probably wouldn’t get a chance to do if we weren’t fundraising because the cost would have to come from school funds or from parents.”
