Newark Golf Club new ladies’ captain begins a year of fundraising for the British Heart Foundation

The new ladies’ captain of Newark Golf Club has announced she will be supporting the British Heart Foundation during 2020.

The money raised will help the charity pay for life-saving research into heart and circulatory conditions, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia, and risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes.

Sue Burgin said: “I lost my dear husband to heart disease, so our family has experienced the devastating impact that heart and circulatory conditions can have.

“This is why I am so pleased to be able to fundraise for the British Heart Foundation during my year as ladies’ captain.

“I am looking forward to raising awareness of the charity’s work among our club members and helping to raise vital funds to support the charity’s important research.”

The golf club will be raising money for the heart foundation through a range of events throughout the year, including a charity clothes swap, music night, and the lady captain’s charity day.

Naomi Walters, fundraising manager, said: “We are honoured that Sue has chosen to support us during her year as ladies’ captain.

“In the UK, more than a quarter of deaths each year are due to heart and circulatory conditions, so the money raised is vital for us to continue our research into better ways of diagnosing, preventing, and treating patients.”

There are more than 17,000 people living with heart and circulatory conditions in Newark and Sherwood.
