Car hits tree on Hawton Road, Newark, during police pursuit




Two people have been taken to hospital after their car hit a tree during a police pursuit.

Hawton Road, Newark, is cordoned off and emergency services remain at the scene following the incident this morning.

Detective Inspector James McDonagh, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "A police pursuit commenced shortly before 8am on Sunday, August 28, after a vehicle failed to stop in the Newark area.

"During the pursuit, the fleeing vehicle left the road and hit a tree in Hawton Road, Newark.

"An air ambulance was called and two casualties have been taken to hospital."

Police say Hawton Road is expected to remain closed for some time.
