Care home plan for pub site
A former Newark pub could make way for an old people’s care home, bringing with it almost 40 new jobs.
deal Care Homes Ltd of Leeds has applied to Newark and Sherwood District Council for planning permission for a purpose-built, three-storey residential care home with 50 bedrooms on the site of The Broadway Hotel, Bowbridge Road.
Mr Tony Roberts told the town council planning committee last week that he liked the design of the care home but was concerned that the site was too small.
Members agreed to ask Newark and Sherwood District Council, which will decide the application, for a traffic impact assessment to be carried out.
An application for a 60-bedroom care home on the nearby site of Merkur House, on Bowbridge Road, Newark, was supported by the town council.
Mr Gangel said the home would be a much-needed asset for the community.
The committee also backed plans for a two-storey, 16-bedroom extension to Parklands Care Home on Strawberry Hall Lane, Newark.
