Care homes set to go on market
Newark's Woods Court care home is due to be put up for sale in September by Nottinghamshire County Council.
The council's cabinet will decide next week whether to advertise 12 of its residential care homes for sale, also including Bishops Court, Boughton.
The sale process is expected to take between 12 to 18 months, which means the earliest the homes will be sold is September next year.
The council says this fits in with the commitment made in February that the homes would not be sold for at least a year.
Mr Kevin Rostance, the cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: "We will look for suitable organisations to buy the homes who are committed to providing long term quality care.
"The residents should not see any change to their care, as they will be looked after in the same home by the same staff.
"Those people who are currently funded by the county council will also continue to receive this support.
"If the homes are sold, we will use the money to invest in other services for older people in Nottinghamshire.
"One of these services is extra care, which helps older people live as independently as possible with the reassurance that 24 hour on-site care support is available if and when they need it.”
