Carpark plans supported

Plans to use the former site of The Bearings, Newark, for a temporary carpark were supported by the town council on Wednesday.

The site already has planning permission for 89 homes but the landowner, Mrs Susan Parker, is applying for it to be used as a carpark until the housing market improves.

The planning committee agreed to support the application which will now go before Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The vice-chairman Mr Chris Gangel said he felt that extra carparking anywhere near the centre of Newark had to be a good thing and said he hoped the charges would be comparable with those charged by the nearby hospital.
