Chance to become a social butterfly

A women’s social group that offers pampering treatments and arts and craft activities is encouraging more people to join.

Butterflies, run by the Alive church, Newark, offers women nail-painting, facials and massage treatments organised by volunteers, plus tea, coffee and cake.

Butterflies was first started by Lin Arrowsmith, who attends the Alive church in Lincoln.

The group went from strength-to-strength and now holds sessions in North Hykeham as well as Newark.

Penny Gault, who coordinates the Newark group, said they were hoping to encourage more people to join.

Mrs Gault, of Farndon, said: “We started in September last year but not many people had heard of us so this month we decided to hand out goody bags filled with treats for women in Newark — to help promote what we are about.

“We wanted to make a difference to the lives of women in the town.

“There may be women who are lonely and would like to meet people, and there are busy mums who need some pampering.”

Mrs Gault said the group was also about creating friendships in a relaxed environment.

There is a baby and toddler play area.

'Promoting friendship'

“The people who have been coming so far have found it very relaxing and have enjoyed the aspect of meeting new people,” Mrs Gault said.

“Some people who attend church have brought groups of friends with them to Butterflies.

“The main emphasis is about promoting friendship.”

The group is always looking for donations, including beauty and cosmetic products.

When the group first started Eden Hall Day Spa, Elston, provided some products.

Butterflies is held twice a month at the Alive church, Albert Street, from 1pm until 2.30pm (days vary each month).

The next meeting is on March 7.
