Charity shop seeks stock

Newark’s British Heart Foundation shop is encouraging people to volunteer to help with a huge stock appeal.

The charity is launching The Big Donation, an initiative that aims to bring in 400,000 bags of stock nationally — the equivalent of £8m — between August and October.

The Newark shop, on Middlegate, requires 115 hours of time every week from its volunteers.

The charity needs people to help at local collection events, hand out donation bags, help in the shop, liaise with clubs and businesses to organise events, place donation bins in the community, and source end-of-line stock from retailers.

Last year, during The Big Donation in Newark, 284 bags were collected, raising £5,680.

Mr Mike Lucas, the retail director for the British Heart Foundation, said: “There are a huge number of roles available to suit a whole range of people and whatever time and skills you have to spare.”
