The Wine Bank, Southwell, awarded the best regional wine shop in Decanter awards

An independent wine shop has been awarded a prestigious retail award.

Mr and Mrs Fine Wine’s The Wine Bank, Southwell, has been awarded the best regional wine shop in Central England in the Decanter Retail Awards 2022.

Owner Chris Bailey said: “Decanter is one of the more prestigious and recognisable awards.

“It has more resonance with customer than the trade awards. They would not recognise that — although it is big in the trade — but I think they recognise Decanter.

“England includes places like Cambridge, Birmingham and goes up to I believe Sheffield and beyond, it’s a big area, this is a huge achievement for us,

“We are very proud and very excited.”

The shop offers a hand-picked selection of quality wines from around the world, inspired by the owner’s own passion for wine, alongside wine tasting, and expert wine knowledge.

Chris added: “You submit details of your business and why you think you should be shortlisted, and then you do a presentation about how you work with the region and area — in this case Southwell.”

It wouldn’t be the first award for the business, having won trade award IWSC Independent Wine Retailer of the Year in 2018 and Independent Retailer of the Year in the 2019 Newark Business Awards.
