Children’s Bereavement Centre hosts Quids for Kids Fest this weekend
There will be plenty of fun in the sun this weekend with a Quids For Kids Fest at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall, organised by the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
Sunday’s event will feature a sponsored walk, live music, games, craft activities and food and drink stalls.
There will be a drinking water point on the festival field. It takes place from noon to 3pm.
“There’s going to be lots going on at the Quids 4 Kids festival. Bring your blankets and camping chairs and come and make a day of it,” said bereavement centre fundraising manager Rachel Wilson.
“We wanted to create an event that brings the family together, outdoors. It’s a beautiful location, explore the grounds by taking part in our sponsored walk, you will be helping raise money for your local charity.
“We understand that this is a difficult financial time for some people, so with no cost for entry or parking, please just come along and bring a picnic.”
Entry for the 2.2km sponsored walk along the River Trent is £2.50.
Any child who raises £22 — every 22 minutes a child in the UK is bereaved of a parent — will receive a medal.
Alongside the festival activities, there will be sports challenges taking place at the tennis courts.
Anyone inspired by Wimbledon is invited to take part in the charity tennis challenges.
Minster School, Southwell, has lent the charity tennis rackets and balls so visitors can have the use of equipment in return for a donation.
People can get involved on the day, there’s no need to register.
Richard Fry, a volunteer at the centre who has written a song inspired by volunteering at last year’s bereavement camp has already raised £1,275 on Rainbow Appears for the charity.
The Children’s Bereavement Centre provides free one to one bereavement counselling to people as young as three years-old.
The charity has supported 923 local families who were affected by the loss of someone close or diagnosed with a long-term illness last year.
