Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police to leave for new role

Nottinghamshire's Chief Constable Chris Eyre has today announced that he is taking up a new position as Chief Constable, Sovereign Base Area Police Cyprus.

He will leave the force on June 23. His new role includes responsibility for the areas in and around Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

As an interim measure Deputy Chief Constable Sue Fish will become temporary chief constable from June 23 until March 31 2017.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Torr will take over his responsibilities as deputy chief constable on June 11.

Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: "Chris Eyre has been an outstanding chief constable for Nottinghamshire.

"Crime in Nottinghamshire is falling faster than almost anywhere else in the UK and Nottinghamshire Police is the fastest improving police force in England and Wales.

"This is all as a result of the Chris's work as chief constable over the last six years. I wish him well in his challenging new role.

"I'm delighted that Sue Fish has decided to delay her retirement until 31 March 2017.

"Both Sue and I agree that it's important to have continuity in leadership of the top team. Her decision reflects, once again, her commitment over many years to Nottinghamshire Police. I'm extremely grateful to her.

"Simon Torr will take up his new role as deputy on June 11. He brings a wealth of experience to his new post.

"Decisions about Simon's replacement as assistant chief constable will be made shortly.

"These moves give stability to Nottinghamshire Police in a time of unprecedented change.

"It's vital that we appoint a new chief constable for April 1 2017 who will help us tackle the challenging environment we face."

Mr Eyre said: "I am proud of all the officers and staff I have had the privilege of leading during my six years here.

"Together we have shown that this is one of the finest forces in the country.

"I have had the pleasure of working with many community leaders and partners during my time here. They have been unfailing generous have helped to make policing and public service in Nottinghamshire what it is today.

"Over the last three and a half years of working with Paddy Tipping I have learned so much.

"He has been an inspirational leader, mentor and friend to me. I am delighted that the public of Nottinghamshire has restated their trust in him as police and crime commissioner.

"I wish him well and know that he and his new Chief Officer Team will continue the work we have been doing together."
