Christmas time crime hits an all-time low
The number of crimes committed over the Christmas period in Nottinghamshire has fallen by more than 50% - and is now at its lowest level since records began.
In December 2002, when current recording measurements were implemented, 12,166 crimes were committed in the county.
This contrasts with 5,716 crimes committed in December 2010, which is a fall of 6,450 crimes or a 53% reduction.
Since 2002, comparing the month of December, vehicle crime has dropped by 78%; burglary dwelling has fallen by 70%; robbery has reduced by 37% and violence against the person has dropped by 9%.
Chief Constable Julia Hodson said: “Christmas is a moment to be celebrated and it is fantastic to be able to celebrate these latest crime figures with the people of Nottinghamshire.
“I can happily confirm the county has enjoyed its safest festive period for a very long time, which means there has been many, many fewer victims of crime.
Jon Collins, chairman of the police authority, said: “It is good to see that the focus on driving down crime was maintained over the busy festive period and that the number of crimes has more than halved since the same period in 2002.
“However, it is important that we maintain our focus on continued performance improvements, despite the funding issues that we face, to make Nottinghamshire a safer place for everyone."
