Closing date of this year's Newark In Bloom front garden competition is extended until June 30
The closing date of this year’s Newark In Bloom front garden competition has been extended until June 30.
Entries were due to end on April 30 with judging taking place in July and August.
But this has been put back because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The aim of our light-hearted competition is to celebrate the lovely front gardens in Newark that bring so much pleasure to residents walking around our streets,” said a spokesman for Newark In Bloom.
“Now is the time when, more than ever, we all need to be uplifted and have our spirits raised and what better way to do this than to celebrate all the hard work and beautiful efforts of our local gardeners and their many and varied front gardens?
“In view of this, we propose to extend the closing date until the end of June, giving gardeners facing lockdown more time to spend in their front gardens.”
The group is asking residents to take photographs over the weeks as gardens grow and develop so there is a record of them.
The spokesman said: “We don’t know how and when the lockdown and restrictions will develop and when, or even if, we are able to fix a judging date but we hope to be able to highlight the hard work of our local front gardeners in some way this year.”
The competition is open to gardens in Newark that can be seen from the pavement.
