Endeavour Taekwondo in Nottinghamshire raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and future tournaments
Members of a Dojang banded together to raise money for good causes.
"Endeavour Taekwondo stepped into the dojang to showcase their skills for two good causes," said head instructor Sarah Harney.
"The students at the club entered into a club tournament that included sparring, board breaking, patterns, and special technique elements."
The tournament was held at Farnsfield Village Hall this year and was organised to raise funds for two reasons.
The first was to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust and the second was to help send Endeavour students to represent England in an overseas tournament in 2024.
Sarah said that the club wants to replicate the club's successes in 2022.
Last year, she took her students to the World Championships and they came back with 20 medals and five world championship titles.
ITF taekwondo is completely unfunded and unsupported in the UK said Sarah.
Endeavour Taekwondo is a North Nottinghamshire-based club training in South Muskham, Southwell, and Rainworth.
They have a women's team who train together to promote the sport.
The club contains regular tournament competitors who travel across the UK winning medals, families who train together, and many other dynamics in its ranks.
Sarah runs the family club assisted by her sons Aidan and William and includes amongst her students her husband Tony and her two daughters Erin aged ten and Rose aged eight.
The club is always looking for new students to test themselves and their skills in a different sport not normally easily accessible in semi-rural areas.
Sarah added that she is trying to support her students to attain more success for themselves, the club, the region, and the sport.
Raising funds helps mitigate the costs incurred to achieve this for the team.
The students on the day were a mixture of black belts and other belts, ranging from primary school ages to practitioners in their 50s.
The focus was to compete in a friendly and supportive environment while testing their mettle against fellow students.
Anyone interested in joining the club or trying a trial can contact the club at endeavourtkd@outlook.com or calling 07716697174
Medals were awarded as part of the day's events as students enjoyed competing in front of family and friends.
Sarah said that Endeavour Taekwondo is always looking for the next World or European champion or just someone wanting to be part of the team.
She said that the club is renowned for its welcoming, engaging spirit, which probably accounts for the diversity of the club.
"Having within the team Ukrainian, Italian, French, Polish, and other nationality students means it reflects the cross-section of society the Nottinghamshire has to offer," added Sarah.
