Children at Bowbridge After School Club, Newark, received a letter from the Queen, who thanked them for drawings sent to mark her diamond jubilee.

The club drew pictures of the celebrations, which they posted to Buckingham Palace.

Mrs Theresa Palermo, the club manager, said: “We weren’t expecting a reply, especially since we sent them a few months ago.

“When the letter arrived everyone was very curious because they could see the Royal emblem on the envelope.”

The children drew the pictures as part of a project about the Royal Family.

The letter included a reply from one of the Queen’s ladies-in-waiting, who said the Queen was touched by the drawings.
