The annual Newark College Art and Design Exhibition, featuring students’ work, opens Friday.
Open to the public, the display is at the College Art Studios on Friday, June 28, Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2.
The 16 students’ work includes specialisms in photography, illustration, decorative arts, sculpture, crafts and fashion. They will be on hand to chat about their projects and inspirations.
Annie Gault, who has studied an extended diploma in art and design, addresses the imminent issue of plastic pollution.
She is displaying 406 photographs that visualise the impact of plastic contaminating oceans.
She said: “I was home educated until I was 16 as I had severe anxiety and found school too much. I then decided I wanted to interact more and so applied to come to the college.
“I specialised in photography for a few months and really enjoyed it. I’m now going on to study the subject further at the University of Lincoln.”
Joanne Shelton is finishing her diploma in art and design foundation course. She said: “I have a business background and have always sold my paintings without a formal art education.
“Having made the decision to go down an academic route, I looked around Newark College and was really impressed with the facilities and how approachable everyone is.
“This is a totally new direction for me but the course has opened my eyes and led me to try new things.
“I came to do painting but I’m leaving excited to be experimenting with clay, ceramics and sculpture.”
