Newark College staff raise £1,200 for Beaumond House and Children's Bereavement Centre

Two charities in Newark have received a share of money raised by The Lincoln College Group, which includes Newark College, writes Benjamin Lynch.

The group has presented cheques totalling more than £12,500, which was raised last year by the group’s Pink Ribbon Campaign.

The campaign has raised more than £84,000 since it was founded 13 years ago to support the Candles charity, which funds immunotherapy treatment, following a staff member’s breast cancer diagnosis.

Since then the campaign has grown to support many more charities in the area, through a range of fundraising activities, including sponsored hikes and challenges, and a regular staff lottery.

Beaumond House Comm-unity Hospice, Newark, received £200, and The Children’s Bereavement Centre, also in Newark, was given £1,000.

Rachel Wilson, fundraising manager for the centre, said: “We were delighted to receive such a large donation from the Pink Ribbon Campaign.

“It will make a huge difference to us here at the Children’s Bereavement Centre.

“The cost for eight sessions of one-to-one counselling support is £200, so this donation could enable five young people to access the support they so desperately need at one of the most devastating times in their lives.”

The total raised was another positive for the centre, which has been chosen as Newark Golf Club’s charity of the year.

A total of £11,340 was presented to other charities.
