Collingham take bragging rights in limited overs friendly

Collingham took the spoils in a friendly derby against Balderton at Dale Field.

The match was organised to keep the rivalry between the two clubs alive after Balderton were relegated from Division A of the South Notts League last season.

Both sides had enjoyed entertaining contests in the three seasons they played in the same division.

A planned Twenty20 match was turned into a reduced-overs Sixteen16 encounter because of fears over bad light.

Collingham, batting first, started poorly when Seb Menzhausen, Jack Copley and George Hogg were dismissed cheaply.

Dan Pinfold and Paul Colcomb bowled well to reduce the home side to nine for three.

The experienced Oliver Dyson and David Pipes steadied the ship, however, with a confident partnership.

Dyson hit 42 off 32 balls, striking six boundaries, and Pipes scored 29 off 27 to lift the score to 68 for three.

Both were dismissed looking to increase the run-rate, but Jonathan Todd ensured the innings ended on a high with an unbeaten 24, including a towering six over mid-wicket.

Chasing 111 for five, Dominic Wiffin was the main aggressor early in Balderton’s reply, hitting four boundaries in his 35.

The remaining batsmen struggled to score freely, with Collingham able to increase pressure and force mistakes.

Harry Sheppard took the important scalp of Wiffin with the score on 51 for one and, although David Lynn was unbeaten on 11 at the close, Balderton fell short on 91 for six.
