Collingham woman fined for 'stepping out of' B&M Newark carpark

A woman is protesting against a parking fine she says she was given after stepping out of a Newark store’s carpark.

After shopping at B&M, on Victoria Street, Katherine Martin was waiting to meet her sister. She says she was fined £60 by UKCPS after stepping on to the street to see if she could see her sister.

Katherine says UKCPS has deemed this as going off the the carpark’s premises.

“It has made me really quite ill having to deal with this issue. I appealed the fine but they have since refused it. To be called a liar is dreadful,” said Mrs Martin, of Collingham.

“I went in to B&M to purchase some goods and then went to the Co-op to use the ATM machine and shop. I then moved the car nearer to the exit as my sister was meeting me there. I left the car to see if she was waiting on the street and as I stepped on to the street I was accused of leaving the site and given a £60 fine.”

The carpark company, UKCPS LTD, manage carparks throughout the UK in all commercial sector areas and claim to have effectiveness and ethical management at the heart of what they do.

Mrs Martin said: “I am well aware of the terms and conditions but as I did not leave the site I am very aggrieved. I must have spoken to them six times and sent receipts, bank statements with first class delivery, at my own cost.

“They have already been in the paper for a similar issue – what picture does this paint of the shops?”

It comes after a Newark driver was fined on May 22 this year by the same firm when using the stores for what he says was 15 minutes of the free two hours’ parking before leaving the premises.

Andrius Baranauskis was ordered to pay a £100 fine, reduced to £60 if he paid within 14 days.

He said: “It was claimed that there are photographs of me leaving, but that is impossible. I appealed and explained the situation, but I haven’t heard anything back— this is a big concern and it’s unfair.”

Mrs Martin is yet to hear anything back from UKCPS LTD about the fine she feels she has been falsely given.

The Advertiser contacted the company but did not receive a response before going to press.
