Newark comedy lover uses lockdown-inspired jokes to lift the mood amid coronavirus pandemic and is nominated as the Advertiser's Citizen of the Week
A man with a love for comedy has been using lockdown-inspired jokes to lift the mood amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Lee Broughton, of Newark, is the owner of Facebook group Lockdown Jokes, which now has more than 1,000 members.
It has led him to be nominated for the Advertiser’s Citizen of the Week.
“Because of what is happening, I thought everybody needed cheering up,” said Lee.
“At work I am known to tell a lot of jokes, and on Facebook I saw a lot of groups to do with singing, and other things like that, but there wasn’t anything to do with jokes.
“I came up the idea with the idea of going live on Facebook as well, so I would read out some of the jokes that we share on the page.
“I’m not brilliant at it, but it is something I thought was worth giving a go just to cheer people up.”
Cara Carlisle, a former work colleague at Team Knowhow, submitted the nomination.
She said he had also organised a competition for front line workers through his page.
“He has done this all while still working, so he is my citizen of the week,” said Cara.
The competition he created saw NHS workers entered into a raffle, and the winner chose a charity of their choice for Lee to donate to.
He has also used football-based raffle cards to raise funds for numerous charities.
