Newark First Aid, Collingham Fire Station and Newark Showground work together in simulated mass casualty emergency
A joint exercise tested the capabilities of several organisations as teams conducted training by responding to a simulated mass casualty event.
Members of Collingham Fire Station, Newark First Aid, and the Newark Agricultural Society worked together to provide and deal with a realistic emergency scenario at the Newark Showground.
"We staged a critical incident at Newark Showground where we worked alongside the management team and Collingham Fire Station," said a spokesman from Newark First Aid.
"We were faced with the red gate toilet block roof being on fire.
"Our forward incident officer and our equipment officer were deployed to the scene and were then backed up by a further eight first aiders to deal with the casualties.
"The showground representative along with our duty manager met within the event control room to co-ordinate the operation and staff.
"There was a forward management team at the incident location working together to manage the scene and deal with the incident.
"Following the initial update report, the fire service was dispatched, to make the incident as realistic as possible.
"Our first aiders had real casualties to deal with, thanks to our members' families and neighbours, as well as manikins who were used as unconscious casualties.
"In total, our team dealt with six casualties.
"We finished up with a whole group de-brief with tea, coffee, and cakes kindly provided by the showground.
"It was a great opportunity to test our systems as we roll out our critical incident training with learning points gathered to allow us to improve our response and our training programme.
"We’re pleased to say we’ve secured another date to simulate a critical incident with the showground."
