Community awards are open
Nominations for community award are now being accepted.
The fourth round of Nottinghamshire's Community Hero award is now under way.
Nottinghamshire County Council's award is looking for modern-day community heroes and heroines.
The council is seeking nominations for people who go the extra mile for a neighbour, an organisation or a local community.
Girl Guide leader, Cheryl Turner, food bank organiser, Richard MacRae and community champion, Janet Enever, have all been awarded the Community Hero award this year.
There have been more than 40 application since the awards opened in March.
Girl Guide Leader and Church Youth Worker, Cheryl Turner, was the latest winner in September.
The 29-year-old, from Bowbridge Road, Newark, spends countless hours a week volunteering.
This involves being a Guide Leader at 2nd Balderton Guides.
She is also a Sunday School Teacher at St Leonards Church on Lincoln Road, as well as Church Social Secretary and general church youth worker.
Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman Councillor Mrs Sue Saddington said: “We have received dozens of entries since we launched the Community Heroes award in March and we would like to thank everyone who has taken time to nominate someone.
“The standard of entry has been extremely high, and we are once again appealing for more nominations from across the county as the chance to be recognised is offered once again.
“There are so many people who do lots of work which doesn’t get recognition so these awards seek to address that."
The awards will be reviewed by the Chairman of the County Council and the Chairman’s award will be presented on a regular basis to an individual nominated for the award.
