A crafts community group is set to start in January in Tambo Lounge and another venue in Newark town centre
A crafts enthusiast has created a community group in Newark to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone, try new things, and learn from each other.
Olivia McKee has created The Crafty Meetup, to give people who enjoy crafting or are looking for a crafty hobby to meet up with like-minded people.
The group will meet up once a month from January onwards ,and there will be two different sessions, one dedicated to people with some experience and another one for the curious and beginners.
“I love the inspiration you can find for crafting online, but nothing beats seeing the work of other crafters or getting a question or two answered about your project,” said Olivia.
The Crafty Meetup aims to offer some activities in the evenings and weekends as the majority of community groups take place in the day, affecting people with full-time jobs.
The regular Crochet Crafty Meetup will begin on January 8, from 7pm to 8.30pm at the Tambo Lounge in Newark.
The session will continue to run on the second Wednesday of every month, at the same time and place.
The first beginner workshop meetup will be on March 8 from 10am to 12.30pm on a venue in Newark town centre yet to be confirmed.
Olivia added: “It will give people in the local area a chance to meet new people and learn some new skills at the same time.
“The groups are a chance to bring along a project you’re already working on and have a chat, plus ask any questions you’ve got about your project or the craft on the whole, as often two brains are better than one.”
The first sessions will be focused on crochet and in the future, Olivia is hoping to expand it to other crafts.
People interested in joining the group can visit The Crafty Meetup website or Facebook and Instagram to book sessions or learn about the community group.
