Consultation between traders and Newark Town Council over losing a trading day on Newark’s Market concludes
A consultation with stallholders over ceasing a Newark market day has ended.
The face-to-face consultation aimed at helping inform stallholders was held over future decisions to be taken by the town council, taking into account the opinions of traders.
Newark Town Council is considering dispensing with one of the slowest days on the market, either Monday or Thursday.
Traders were asked if things were to change, which day they would prefer to be lost.
A decision is set to be made public knowledge over the next few months.
A false rumour has been circulating suggesting that the market is set to close on both of those days, says Ian Harrison, business manager for carparks and markets at the town council.
“There is no decision at the moment as we haven’t concluded the report. It is basically a rumour based on the consultation,” said Mr Harrison.
