Director of Public Health Nottinghamshire, Jonathan Gribbin's direct message about keeping mum this Mother's Day

It's Mothering Sunday this weekend and Jonathan Gribbin, the director of Public Health for Nottinghamshire, has a poignant and hard-hitting message for the county's offspring — communicate your love, not coronavirus.

In his weekly media briefing, Mr Gribbin said: "This weekend we see Mother's Day and I am aware that is a special time and perhaps for some people a very poignant time because they perhaps find themselves perhaps unable to meet up with their mum at all.

"Tragically for some they may have lost their mum over the past year.

"I want to say to those who do have the opportunity to meet up, do please keep in mind that if she's the one other person you meet with out of doors this weekend, please make sure that it's socially distanced.

"Communicate your love to your mum but not covid please."
