Coronavirus: Pupil at Newark Orchard School self-isolates as a precaution while tests are awaited
A pupil at a Newark school has self-isolated with their family as a precaution over coronavirus.
Newark Orchard School's headteacher sent students home with a letter on Wednesday warning the pupil in question had not yet had a confirmed diagnosis.
Margot Tyers said she wanted to reassure families due the increasing number of coronavirus cases across the country.
The letter read: "Unfortunately, in this type of situation there are going to be times when rumours are spread which cause unnecessary panic.
"I wanted to confirm that a pupil at Newark Orchard School is being isolated with their family merely as a precaution and that a diagnosis of the coronavirus has not as yet been confirmed.
"The school will continue to follow the Government advice and keep the school open and please be assured that I will keep you updated should the situation change."
It comes after six coronavirus cases were confirmed in Nottinghamshire, with a Southwell resident being one of them. They are a member of the wider family of a Lowe’s Wong Junior School pupil.
The school took advice from Public Health England and the pupil has since self-isolated.
The Minster School was notified of the diagnosis and issued a letter to its parents informing them the Lowe’s Wong pupil had no siblings there.
