Newark and Sherwood: McDonald's to hire 20,000 more staff as it opens 50 new sites this year

McDonald's is hiring 20,000 more staff as it opens new restaurants in the UK and Ireland.

The fast food chain is taking on new workers and opening 50 new sites this year, UK and Ireland chief executive Paul Pomroy told The Sunday Telegraph.

A further 100 will be added over the next two years.

New restaurants or drive-thrus in the Newark Advertiser area could definitely be on the cards as the chain searches for greenfield/brownfield sites, existing buildings suitable for drive-thru conversions, land on retail or leisure parks, main arterial routes, co-located with hotels and petrol stations, and land with a minimum 3600 sq ft restaurant, plus car parking, or minimum of 0.5 acres.

McDonald's offers an introductory fee of £20,000 to non-retained agents and takes leases of up to 25 years.

"It's fantastic to be able to offer an additional 20,000 people an opportunity to work with us," said Mr Pomroy.

"There is no doubt the pandemic has had a huge impact on many people's employment opportunities and threatened the future of high streets up and down the country.

"The moves we've announced today reflect our commitment to continue to innovate and invest in the local communities and economies we serve."

McDonald's currently has more than 1,400 franchise restaurants across UK and Ireland and employs more than 130,000 people.
