Newark and Sherwood District Council's planning committee approve plans to turn a house on Elm Close into a children's home

Controversial plans to turn a house into a children's home have been approved by a council.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committee approved plans to turn a house on Elm Close into a children’s home on condition that there continues to be space for five cars on the driveway.

The application was put forward by Homes2Inspire, a registered care provider with Nottinghamshire County Council specialising in accommodation for children and young people in care and away from their families.

The master bedroom would be split in half to turn the five-bedroom house into six to accommodate five children between the ages of ten and 18.

Concerns were raised over road safety, fears of crime and tranquillity of the area at the planning meeting.

However, Nottinghamshire Police raised no objections to the planning application.
