Southwell Town Council outlines plans to improve appearance of town centre

Public spaces in Southwell town centre are set to be spruced up.

The town council’s plan involves multiple areas of work to revitalise and brighten the area in time for summer activities.

The market square will be regenerated under the scheme, including improved storage facilities.

The town’s noticeboards are also being refurbished as part of the scheme.

Plans to buy a sound system to use for busking and events in the town were also discussed at the council meeting.

Other aspects of the town are to be decorated to brighten the area.

The spring hanging baskets are also set to be improved, depending on the limitations of the supplier, for this year.

Town councillor Penny Rainbow said: “They were disappointing last year.”

Bunting is to be installed at the crossroads, following the installation of wire above the height required by the highways authority.

Council chairman Sally Reynolds said: “It would be really nice to have bunting for the jubilee.”

Currently, the council is aiming to complete these projects before summer.

Other restoration projects, to be discussed with the Highways authority, were put forwards by Karen Roberts.

She suggested that the heritage lampposts and town entrance signs needed repainting and some maintained.

The lampposts were said to have never been repainted since they were installed.
