Newark and Sherwood District Council reveals extent of its planned dealings with the collapsed Edwinstowe-based construction firm Robert Woodhead Ltd
Newark and Sherwood District Council has revealed the extent of the dealings it had planned with the construction firm Robert Woodhead Ltd.
The Edwinstowe-based construction firm with major multi-million-pound building projects across the region s ceased trading, with the loss of 122 jobs.
Robert Woodhead Ltd blamed well-documented market conditions and impact of rapid price increases throughout the supply chain, coupled with fixed price contracts, as being the root cause of its demise.
At the time it went out of business, the company — which had a pre-tax turnover of £44.3m last year — had 23 live projects worth £5m.
Staff received only 25% of their monthly salary at the time they were made redundant.
Robert Woodhead Ltd partnered with Newark and Sherwood District Council on a number of key projects over recent years such as the Sports and Fitness Centre on Lord Hawke Way, the creation of the National Civil War Centre and had a contract to build new council homes.
A spokesperson from Newark and Sherwood District Council said: “We had 39 homes spanning seven sites under construction by the Woodhead Group, all at various stages of completion.
"District council staff have plans in place to make sure these homes are completed with minimal disruption and where possible, maintaining existing relationships with suppliers.
"Where new homes are planned in the delivery programme but work has not yet started on site, a new procurement exercise will be undertaken to secure a new build partner.”
RSM UK Restructuring Advisory, a company with expertise in the field of restructuring, recovery and insolvency services across the UK, has been instructed by the board of Robert Woodhead Ltd to pave its way into insolvency.
Robert Woodhead Ltd also worked on the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, Lincoln Cathedral and the National Space Centre and had contracts with a number of housing scheme contracts with other councils such as Bolsover, Shirebrook, Bassetlaw and Mansfield.
