Newark and Sherwood District Council ‘aware’ of unauthorised Travellers at Sconce and Devon Park

A number of caravans have been parked on the green space at Sconce and Devon Park overnight.

Photos sent in to the Advertiser show that five or six caravans were seen at the park this morning (Thursday) near the children’s exercising play equipment.

A spokesperson for Newark and Sherwood District Council confirmed that the council is looking to seek a court order to move the group from the park.

“We are aware of the unauthorised encampment at Sconce and Devon Park,” the spokesman said.

“We have visited the site today, which consists of five vehicles and six caravans.

“We have begun the process of seeking a court order to remove the group from the site and timeframes around this are subject to court availability, but we will keep on top of this.

“We will continue to monitor the park to make sure everyone on site is well looked after and safe.”
