The risk of being a victim of crime in Nottinghamshire is lower than ever, according to figures released by police.

Fewer than 7,000 crimes in total were recorded last month - the first time crime has fallen below that level since recording began in 2002.

In Newark the figures have fallen from 4,547 crimes in 2008/9 to 3,725 in 2009/10 to date, a reduction currently of 18%.

In B Division, which also includes Bassetlaw and Sherwood, crime has reduced by 15.5% - from 17,451 to 14,743.
