Fiskerton couple Kevin and Vicky Osbon to trek 485-miles of Camino Way Frances for the Alzheimer’s Society
A couple are to take on a six-week trek for charity, after losing family and friends to Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia.
Kevin and Vicky Osbon, both 60, of Fiskerton, decided to take on the huge challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of three of their close family and friends.
All three died within the last three months due to complications associated with Alzheimer’s or Vascular Dementia.
Kevin said: “We felt so hopeless trying to support our family and friends through this terrible disease, experiencing them deteriorating into a state where they could no longer recognise who we were and then losing three such special people in such quick succession, it was heartbreaking and it motivated us to do something special to raise awareness of this awful disease.
“I can’t believe the number of people that have approached my wife and I with their own heartbreaking stories and experiences of Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia, we’re hoping to do our bit to raise funds with the ultimate goal of funding the research to find a cure.”
Donations can be made to Kevin and Vicky’s JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/page/kevin-osbon-6
The couple will walk the famous Camino Way Frances — a 485-mile trail — over a six week period starting in mid-April.
It will take them from Saint-Jean Pied de Port in France, across the Pyrenees into Spain, and then across the entire country to the Santiago de Compostela near it’s border with Portugal.
They will trek an average of fifteen miles a day over various types of terrain, walking for six days at a time and then taking a rest day in between.
