Driving offences before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court

The general manager of a car dealership has been allowed to keep his driving licence.

Elliot Harvey, 31, was caught driving a Mini on Northgate while using his mobile phone.

Harvey, of Marleston Lane, Newark, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and was fined £200 and had six penalty points added to his licence.

He avoided a totting up ban though as magistrates heard he would lose his job and his income if he lost his licence.

They heard that would lead to an inability to make mortgage payments as he was currently the sole provider as his wife was about to take unpaid maternity leave.

Harvey was also told to pay £153 costs.

An uninsured driver was fined and disqualified for six months.

Josh Billington, 28, of Alexander Road, Farnsfield, pleaded guilty before magistrates, who fined him £120 and told him to pay £143 costs.

A woman with a habit of driving without insurance has also escaped a driving ban.

Laurie Selfridge, 35, admitted two offences of driving without insurance and had a third proved against her.

Selfridge, of The Meadows, Farndon, was caught all three times in the village where she lives, twice driving an Audi and once behind the wheel of a BMW.

For each offence, she was fined £120 and received six penalty points.

12 is enough for a ban, but with 18, Selfridge still mananged to keep her licence based on personal mitigation.

She further admitted three charges of driving cars without a correct licence, for which she received no separate penalties.

She must also pay £36 costs.

Magistrates heard not being able to drive would bring hardship to her children and impact her health.

In the latter part of 2022, Selfridge pleaded guilty to twice failing to provide information as to the identity of a driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

On that occasion, she was fined £180, told to pay £204 costs, and had six penalty points added to her licence, meaning, with points staying on a driving record for four years, she now has double the amount of points that would usually incur a ban.
