NEWARK COURT LISTINGS: Cannabis production and police officer assault




The case of a man accused of causing the death of 60-year-old woman while driving a coach has been committed to Nottingham Crown Court.

Mr Nicholas Hird, 57, of Harcourt Street, Newark, denied causing the death of Angela Dowd at the junction of London Road, Bowbridge Road and Sherwood Avenue, Newark, on June 18 through driving without due care and attention.

Mr Hird will make a first appearance at crown court on September 30, after being committed by Nottingham magistrates.

A 33-year-old man received a suspended prison sentence totalling 24 weeks for offences relating to the production of cannabis.

Aleksandrs Voitkuns, of Uxbridge Street, Burton-on-Trent, admitted growing cannabis and possessing a CS spray before the same court.

He also pleaded guilty to the criminal damage of a property on Cross Street, Newark, for which he was ordered to pay £1,650 compensation, and the fraudulent use of electricity connected to the grow.

The term was suspended for a year.

A man was fined £400 and banned from the roads for 18 months for being nearly twice the drink-drive limit.

Eduard Bratosin, 32, of Emenndingen Avenue, Newark, blew 61mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Bratosin was ordered to pay £125 in costs by Nottingham magistrates.

A second drink-driver was banned for 14 months after her guilty plea.

Nichola Jones, 37, of Claricoates Drive, Coddington, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £117 in costs.

She gave a reading of 47mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

A thief pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol from Waitrose.

John Hill, of Bilton Close, Newark, stole two bottles of brandy and a bottle of vodka worth £130.

The 32-year-old was conditionally discharged for 12 months and told to pay compensation of £130.

A driver who left a car parked on part of the railway at Newark Castle Station was fined £220 after the case was proven against her.

Gemma Mann, of Staunton Road, Newark, was fined £220 and ordered to pay £155 in costs.

A woman who pleaded guilty to being twice over the alcohol limit was banned from getting behind the wheel for 20 months.

Jane Mortimore, 57, Bakewell Close, Balderton, gave a reading of 72mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

She was fined £120 and must pay £117 costs.

A man was jailed for eight weeks for assaulting both a police officer and a police community support officer in Newark Market Place.

Christopher Storton, 38, of no fixed address, was fined £150 and ordered to pay £135 in costs following guilty pleas to both assaults.
