COURT LISTINGS: Banned from Waitrose for stealing £5,500 worth of groceries and nine windows damaged at Newark Castle Station
A THIEF who stole groceries from Waitrose on four occasions that amounted to thousands of pounds was handed a suspended sentence at court and banned from the store for two years.
Richard Penson, of Barnstock, Peterborough, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates' Court to four counts of theft and was handed a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
The thefts, committed over 13 days in June, involved goods, alcohol, meat and toilet rolls to the value of £5,520 from Waitrose, Ossington Way, Newark.
The 66-year-old was ordered to pay £2,310 in compensation to Waitrose.
A MAN who damaged nine windows at Newark Castle Station was conditionally discharged for 12 months for criminal damage.
Terrance Macdonald, 64, of no fixed address, admitted to causing £1,200 of damage, and was ordered to pay East Midlands Railway £400 in compensation.
He also pleaded guilty to one count of assault and one count of threatening behaviour that was likely to have caused alarm or distress as part of the same incident.
A DRIVER was fined £293 after he pleaded guilty to being behind the wheel while over the limit.
Angus Strathern, of Radley Road, Newark, was found to have 43mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
The 23-year-old was ordered to pay £117 in costs after the incident on Halam Road, Southwell.
Strathern was banned from driving for a year.
A NEWARK man was fined at court after he pleaded guilty to threatening a police officer.
Stephen Newton, of Beech Avenue, used abusive and insulting behaviour towards the officer on Lincoln Road Bridge, Newark.
The 44-year-old was fined £80 and ordered to pay £115 in costs.
AN UNINSURED driver received a 12 month community order and told to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
Liam Roche, of Cook Drive, Derby, pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and insurance on Boughton Industrial Estate.
The 31-year-old was disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence for 18 months.
Roche was fined £80 and told to pay £170 in costs after he further pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to Mansfield Magistrates' Court after he was released on bail.
The community order included a separate offence committed in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, which was admitted, for driving while disqualified.
